Job Dissatisfaction
|
Job dissatisfaction is a driving force behind individuals seeking employment elsewhere. When evaluating your employment it is important to distinguish between the work you do and your workplace.
Do you find purpose in your work? Are you driven by passion or necessity?
All work has purpose. All work has value. You are the best person to evaluate the value of your work. The value of your work depends on whether or not your personal needs are being met.
Are you passionate about your work? You may be working in your chosen profession, even with a company you have always wanted to work for, and still you may experience moments of job dissatisfaction. Here are some areas to consider when evaluating your work and work environment.
How much autonomy do you have when producing your work? Everyone has a different level of comfort when it comes to his or her independence when working. It's important for you to be aware of your need for self-governance or the degree of management you prefer.
Do you have the opportunity to enhance your community? If your workplace is not currently involved in the community perhaps you can be the architect of a new program that would enable yourself and your co-workers to support outside organizations. Becoming involved with the community will increase your satisfaction at the perceived value of your work and have the organization you work in.
Does your work provide you with social contact and help you maintain or build your social skills? If the work you produce does not require enough interaction for you then perhaps you can look to your workplace for other opportunities to socialize.
Engaging in in-house organizations will provide you with a social outlet, they can help you develop a sense of belonging within the company and can be very useful with networking.
Does your work challenge you? Maintaining current skills and developing new avenues to utilize them can help maintain your sense of satisfaction. Developing new skills will not only build your self-esteem but they can enhance your ability to contribute to the company you work for, and increase your opportunities for advancement.
Compensation in terms of monetary rewards is perhaps the easiest criteria you can look at when determining the value of your work. Since we live in a mercantile society, having our basic necessities met is a common measure of our works value. What you consider necessity is up to you.
Our personal identities are often entwined with the employment choices we make. If you are feeling dissatisfaction with your employment choices it is important to remind yourself that you have purpose and you have value beyond measure.

Ask The Recruiter
We all have career goals, big or small. Here are some questions I have recieved over the last month from those actively seeking new employment. How many versions of resumes should I have - and why?- Ideally, you should personalize your resume each time you apply for a job. List only your experience relevant to the job you are applying for. The number one issues with the resumes I recieve every day is that they have irrelevant information which makes the resume too long, and too difficult to read.Today's employers want to quick glance your resume in 30 seconds or less to decide if they want to read further. Irrelevant information makes it difficult to focus on relevant points, and employers ...(related: Employment)
So You Want To Be A Bodyguard?
Then let me start by helping out. The politically correct phrase these days is not "bodyguard" but personal protection specialist, executive protection specialist or close protection operative, depending on your place of training and other preferences. There can be no better time than this, if you want to excel in this charismatic business. Almost all the elite soldiers that crowde...(related: Employment)
Does Your Resume Lack Vision?
You're just getting over the shock of having become unemployed. You know you need to begin a job search, but you may not know the best way to proceed, or where to start.More than likely, you will dust off your old resume and modify it to include your most recent job experience. Most people search the classifieds and Internet job sites for job openings matching their qualifications. They then submit their resumes to these postings. You will probably do the same with your modified resume. If you follow this routine, you will very likely expe...(related: Employment)

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone In The Job Search
Most everyone these days knows what a comfort zone is. My definition is the place, environment and tasks that we have learned to do and feel comfortable with--a comfort zone.Lots of people feel devastated when they have lost a job as their comfort zone no longer exists. In other words, the time, place, co-workers, tasks which have been performed on the job don't exist any more. It's an uncomfortable place to be in. There is no sense of direction. However, if we as workers realize that a comfort zone can disappear at any time, it is important to get out of our comfort zone while working. It does not take lots of money to be adventurous in looking at what other people do.When we establish a reason to find out about other's jobs, we can unders...(related: Employment)
Theres No Need To Pad Your Resume
It seems like a good idea, harmless in fact. Your friends assure you that everybody does it and that employers rarely check resume facts. Going on blind faith and convinced the truth hasn't been helpful so far, you seriously consider fabricating information on your resume. You adapt the school of thought that a little white lie never hur...(related: Employment)
To All Managers: How Does Add Affect Your Workplace?
Tent caterpillars create a cocoon for an entire colony. Within one colony there are two types of caterpillar. One type, pioneers, weave long threads forming the skeleton of the tent. The others, the workers, weave cross threads filling in the structure. If there are too many pioneers, the tent is too big and collapses. If there are not enough pioneers, the tent is too dense and the colony suffocates. Viva la difference.Within the colony of human beings we can find similar differences. Some are explorers, entrepreneurs extending the boundaries of our environment in art, science, or business....(related: Employment)
