What is Yeast Infection Or Candidiasis

By: Tim Fisher

Also known as Candida infection, Monilia or thrush. It is caused by microscopic bacteria (or yeast). Most people mistakenly think that this condition happens on the outside of the skin and can be treated without difficulty with creams and over-the-counter prescriptions.

Sadly it is oftentimes not that straight forward. Wherever the infections are persistent and keep returning this can be the sign of a more serious internal problem.

In order to know how to cure it permanently we need to recognize what brought on the Candida infection in the first instance. We need to be able to deal with the root causes rather than just treating the external symptoms.

There are in excess of twenty separate species of Candida. They live in our digestive system and all over the surface of our bodies, but for the most part in the intestines, mouth and throat.

In a regular healthy person there can be millions of Candida bacteria. Our bodies require the Candida bacteria to kill harmful bacteria and keep them under control.

In a regular healthy person Candida is kept in place by friendly bacteria, known as pro-biotic bacteria. Unhappily antibiotics can kill friendly bacteria and drive down the amount in our intestines. This can mean that there is not enough to keep the Candida bacteria in place.

If there are difficulties with our immune system, pH balance or if there are not sufficient friendly bacteria Candida can reproduce out of control and bring about infections.

When the balance is lost and the Candida albicans multiply out of control they change from a yeast type to a fungal type that can invade the entire body.

When this happens the fungal type of Candida produces roots that can break through the walls of the intestines. The yeast, bacteria and partly digested food can then get into the bloodstream producing itching, rashes, irritations and other symptoms.

Candida yeast like to multiply externally in warm moist parts of the body. The most commonly recognized are vaginal infections, nail-bed infections, skin rash and thrush.

Infections in the mouth can grow to be more frequent as we get older as well as infections underneath skin folds, below the breasts and around dentures.

We need to appreciate, however, that by the time these external conditions can be seen the Candida is already out of control internally.

The condition can be caused by a combination of various factors. Doctors can, as a result, find it very tricky to control via drugs and over the counter prescriptions.

Unhappily the majority of sufferers still leave treatment in the hands of Doctors and the over the counter industry. Only a small number of individuals take responsibility for their personal health and well-being and looking for a permanent treatment for their condition.
