Washington DC Free Small Business Grants

The District of Columbia Small Business Development Center Network has been established to promote growth, expansion, innovation and to increase the productivity of small business owners in Washington DC. They provide free counseling and low cost training to the small business owners and their managers through their network and its partners thereby enhancing the business success. This center is partially funded by U.S. Small Business Administration.

Grants and financial assistance play a crucial role in funding the start up capital of any business venture. Government and organizational grants are the best options to help in starting the new businesses and expanding the existing ones. There are many types of grants like individual grant, business grant and government grants that are offered to convert the ideas and dreams of the small entrepreneurs into successful businesses. Many State development agencies offer small business grants to the business owners in starting the new small business ventures.

The grant money is available to the citizens of United States from different sources like Federal and government agencies and also from private corporations and foundations. The amount of money given as grants by these organizations can vary each year depending upon the eligibility criteria set out by them. Some institutions give money several times or even throughout the year.

The financial position of the applicants is not taken into consideration while awarding the grants. The applicants are not required even to provide any collateral security and deposits. Government grants are not given for any personal expenses or pay off the debts of the applicants. While submitting the application for grants, a small registration fee has to be paid to cover the administrative expenses of the grant givers. In case the applicant is not qualified to get the grant program, then this fee is refunded to them back.

In order to qualify to get the grants, one must have attained the age of 18 and should reside in the U.S. The grant money is not taxable, interest free and need not be repaid. As the U.S. government understands that the small business is vital for a vibrant economy, many grants are made available to stimulate small businesses,

The grant money can be used in small businesses to open or expand a bookshop, to open a flower shop, a hair saloon, a day care center, a furniture store, a computer store, an auto repair shop, a gift shop, courier services etc. There are 300 types of grants available for new business ventures in the U.S. The existing small businesses can also get free grants for growth and expansion purposes. Small business women have the greatest opportunity to benefit from free government grants.

The additional services provided by the grant givers include, free business advise to minimize the new business start up management costs, management training, business site selection, employee training, Research and Development. Free money grants are also available in most states for women or minorities who want to start a new business.
