Using a painting to reveal its mysticism

Curtains of the show, the innocents, finally opened highlighting some good local stage actors. At this stage is a picture, about which supernatural legends abound. And the long time owner of this picture is someone who maintains anonymity. As if entranced, this lady stopped her travels, parked her car and instantly bought the picture and up to now she does not know why.

How can I possibly afford this, she thought as she waited there for the clerk to take the photo from the window. She remembered that her kids needed to buy clothes, schools and supplies for school time was around the corner. So she rehearsed in her mind what she was going to tell the saleslady, that even if she found the picture so pretty, she could not take if for she just can't afford it. But before the attendant could move and return the portrait back in place, the lady, in a very loud voice, said that she was dying to have that portrait and she will get it no matter what happens.

She then got it hurriedly and walked out of the store, nervous about how her husband could possibly react when he finds out she compulsively bought such an unnecessary and expensive thing, while she also tried to figure out what made her go ahead and buy it. It was an oil painting done perhaps in the late 1900's or early 1900's, and its subject was a Russian wolfhound, a Borzoi. It would be a wonder to someone trained to be familiar with this Russian wolfhound's features, why the artist chose to depict the dog in almost a straight on pose, where only its head and shoulders are painted but nevertheless it was a beautiful picture. It is obvious, too, that the chest is not proportioned to the shoulders.

The woman wondered how she still went ahead and got that strange picture even as her eyes were expertly trained toward the breed and knew that a Borzoi should not appear like so. Strangely, when her husband arrived home that night, he did not blow up as she initially expected upon learning that she bought that instead of the things needed by their children for he instead got so drawn to that painting, the exact same way she was upon seeing it.

Both experts and amateurs in photography took shots of this, but in the long span of comparing the photos, it was mysterious how no two shots of it ever came out to look exactly the same. It was strange how the Borzoi painting would come out like it was three dimensional, while it would be flat at certain occasions, then there would also be times when the pictures would be in color or black and white but nevertheless, lights would strangely linger in the surfaces but the most chilling would be the times when a spectral silhouette would show at its right portion.

We can only blame light reflections or our overactive imaginations for I certainly do not think that there is something wrong with this dog portrait, stated the husband as he was discussing supernatural probabilities behind the portrait in their home. Initially hanging on the wall, a large ceramic plate fell with a crash but when they say it on the floor, there was not one sign of breaking.

During the time that director of the playhouse who is also its producer, heard about the portrait, he quickly went to the couple who gladly loaned it to him for it would be perfect for his play which was a story of the supernatural. Together, the couple openly discussed with the producer of the Innocents that they feel that the portrait was able to make something unknown come into their home the day they got it, and he might be able to help them realize what this when he uses this for his local stage play. They can only keep their fingers crossed that this true.
