Three Ways To Boost And Increase Your Metabolism

If you have been continuing to slowly but steadily put on weight and you are eating no differently it may well be because your metabolism (your body's engine) has slowed down. This can happen as we get older but not because of the passing years it is because we become less active as we get older. It can also happen regardless of our age.

When our metabolism slows we burn less fuel (calories) so more is stored on our tummy and our hips and wherever else our body thinks it should be stored

Here are three ways you can boost and increase your metabolism:

1) Increase the tone in your muscles - Strength training exercise is the only activity that can boost your metabolism as it is the only activity that directly works your muscles through their ranges of movement under a load.

When worked against a resistance muscle tissue become stronger and uses more fuel. The tissue is highly active and when it is toned up it becomes your very best friend as it will burn up your excess fat stores like nothing else can. The very best thing about this is that you will be burning off that fat even when you are resting or sleeping.

2) Get yourself on a healthy eating plan of small meals so it will support your proper exercise program. To be able to put some effort into your workouts so you can boost your metabolism you need lots of energy. Eating small meals every 2-3 hours throughout the day each with a portion of protein will supply that energy.

One of the most important aspects of eating healthy meals is that it will in time eliminate food cravings that can drive even the most dedicated dieter to the kitchen looking for food. Out of control cravings can wreck your healthy eating plans and cause you to overeat or eat the wrong things.

When you supply your body with the macro-nutrients (protein, carbohydrates and fats) in the right proportions you will find the cravings go away which makes the task of losing weight so much easier.

3) To lose weight you need to keep under your body's radar so you do not trigger the 'starvation' mode that not eating enough calories can cause. The best idea is to start off just reducing 100-200 hundred calories from your base level. This level needs to be determined based on your age and activity levels but is usually around 1800 for women and 2200 for men.

When you eat enough food so your body is happy and content it will do what you want and give up its fat stores. But cut back too far and it will put the brakes on fat loss and also increase your appetite until you eat some of the nutrients that it needs.
You can lose body fat by boosting and increasing your metabolism and it is the very best and healthiest way to do it. It is not instant but then nothing worth having in this life is. But slowly but surely you will lose weight and improve your health all at the same time.
