The Essential Guide to an Effective Sales Letter

By: bryan wong yh

A sales letter may be the most straightforward thing to do but do you actually know how to write an effective one? You can be the best sales man in the world but writing one can be a very different process. Whether or not you are an expert of a beginner to writing a sales letter, this article sums up 4 basic rules to help you write a sales letter effectively.
Define a Clear Offer
This is the first and most basic thing you need to do for your sales letter. You need to establish what you are offering and how your customers can benefit from your offer. Try imagining that you are the salesperson talking with a potential customer just like in real life face to face and apply that same principle of communicating with customers on the internet. Adding a more human dimension to your sales letter can also work wonders for your business. People will feel a better connection with you than a salesletter sounding too much like an article.

Fulfil Your Customers Desires
Your customers will definitely wonder if your offer is worth it and if they could actually benefit from taking up your offer. They will ask, “What’s in it for me?” If you don’t provide an answer to this basic question, chances are that you will never convince them to take up your offer or even read your sales letter anymore. People have a short attention span especially with the flood of emails these days so you have to provide a quick summary in the beginning to capture your customer’s attention before they close your email.

Clear Call To Action
Are you telling your customers to do something after reading your sales letter? Are there any clear instructions what to do next? In this day and age, people generally like to be led by the hand. If you can guide them step by step right down to the very minor detail to make money, customers will flock to you and even more will come if you can proof that they can make money on their own. Of course you don’t have to lead them every step, but the most important thing to tell your customers is to subscribe to your newsletter or ebook so that more calls to action can be made by doing that.

An Exit Strategy
This might be a sneaky thing to do for some. An exit strategy means that you have a system put into place to get people to subscribe or opt in to your sales letter. A good example of this is an exit popup window. Some might not like the idea of a popup because it is intrusive but try making a simple popup with good info and present it to your visitors. Studies have shown that there is a higher opt in rate with websites with popup windows.

These tips may seem straightforward but I can assure you not many people are using the above mentioned tips when writing their sales letter. You might think that these are small changes and have no significant impact but if you are not getting anyone to read your sales letter, are you doing it right? To Your Success!
