The role of surgical Loupes is to lessen the eye strain by enlarging the view of your subjects, particularly when you are working on extremely tiny objects. For more magnification you can use about 8.0x, prismatic loupes, designed by Johannes Kepler. These loupes use a series of lenses and prisms to magnify the subject and offer greater magnification, sharp resolution and high depth of field.

• Working distance- It is defined as the distance at which the loupe will focus, distance should be from the loupe lens to the top of your subject. Every loupe has a particular defined distance but it depends on your height, posture and working position.
• Resolution of the Loupe- Resolution is determined by the amount of fine details that are distinguished. Type of glass used in the lens coating affects the resolution of your loupe. Loupes with a high resolution will have crisp, straight lines while lines that appear slightly blurred and curved are viewed with lower quality lens.
• Depth of Field- It is directly related to the working distance and magnification factor. Depth of field is the amount of depth that is in focus while viewing the subject thought the loupe. Generally greater depth of field is, the better it is, you are able to see deeper into the subject without repositioning it. To get a high depth of field select a loupe that has a longer working distance or a lower magnification feature.
• Inter-pupilary distance- It is the distance between pupils of your two eyes, for the sake of comfort loupes should fit into eyes
