Generally, mental health refers to the overall well-being of a person and his or her capability to deal with daily life stressors. Average people encounter a number of stressful events everyday of their lives so it is important for people to be mentally healthy.

Though it has not been scientifically proven yet, studies have shown that anxiety disorders can also be hereditary. There is a positive relation between the occurrences of this type of mental disorder among families, indicating that there are higher chances for a person to develop to have anxiety disorders if it already runs in the family.

There are a lot of ways for people to keep their mental health in a good state. Having a healthy diet and regular exercise can not only help people stay in shape, this routine can also help improve a person's cognitive well-being. While staying physically healthy can bring a lot of benefits on one's mental health, living an unhealthy life can bring a lot of harm to a person and can even cause one to have mental disorders.

There are a number of mental disorders that can be acquired due to overwhelming stress and unhealthy lifestyle. Anxiety disorders are common among people of all ages because these can be brought about by traumatic events and can be worsened if a person is not physically healthy enough to deal with that shocking situation.

Certain environmental factors such as accidents and exposure to violence can cause anxiety disorders and other mental disorders. Young girls who experience physical or sexual abuse are prone to developing mental disorders so it would be helpful to have them undergo counseling after such traumatic encounter. Since these girls are relatively not mature enough to deal with these stressful events, they will need the help of understanding adults.

There are a lot of mental health support centers that can do counseling sessions for children. There are also health centers that can provide free psychotherapy sessions for families who are unable to pay for such services.

In cases wherein a family member was responsible for the abuse, neighbors and other concerned citizens can report these incidents to be better handled by professionals. There are agencies that specialize in handling these incidents. They do not only take care of the situation by pushing for legal actions, they also provide care for the victims of the abuse. Since victims of these incidents can often develop psychological stress, they make sure that the victims undergo psychotherapy.

This form of treatment is being used in most mental health support centers. It mainly involves having conversations with licensed psychologists or psychiatrists to help people open up about what they are feeling. Even non-professionals can perform this because the aim of this form of treatment is to make the victims of abuse feel that they are loved and they can be accepted no matter what.
