Painting and canine come first for this woman

By: William Schmitz

Troubles bark at this talented Pasadena painter every time she has to render a portrait of her most unpredictable clients. These thoroughbred subjects can hardly pose patiently as mother did for whistler so they really cause a stir. Dictating when the sitting is done, the subject would only allow the female portraitist a few minutes to assess its aristocratic features then he finally runs off with a boisterous bark or maybe a twitch at a flea that could not possibly be there.

She does most of her preliminary sketches on the sunny second floor of the 67 year old house she occupies with her spouse and uses an instant camera as well, and this truly works in making sure that her portraits of these dog subjects are accurate. Some of her subject dogs, she also does a few cats, pose better than others. Seemingly very vain with their appearance, the better posers she has encountered are thoroughbreds with show experience.

The bulk of her clientele are thoroughbred. Compared to mongrels or mixed breeds, these thoroughbreds are easier to paint as their shades of coats and the structure of their skeleton are very recognizable. With the fine body structure and short hair of purebred hounds, this painter has developed a penchant for painting them. She also enjoys them more when she captures their expressions, which are perfectly marvelous.

This artist, who during the week is a technical illustrator for a local observatory also does water color landscapes. Her most renowned works of art can be found in a popular gallery. An institute for the arts found in New York City was where she learned how to be an illustrator for magazines. A teacher suggested to her that she paint pooches.

This certified animal lover would head to dog shows around New York and carefully sketch and study the best of the breeds on her own. Making a portrait of a dowager from New York's dog was her first commission. The felice signed canine was mounted beautifully upon a very artsy frame and soon was hung next to the lady dowager's original works of art from Rembrandt and Frans Hals. Eventually, she was able to launch a sketch book with her description and studies of every breed listed by the American kennel club and it was well received.

Into a Pasadena craftsman's home, she and her family moved in 23 years ago and in this nice California home, she found herself a serious artist's studio right on the second floor of the house. She is the best person to consult with when it comes to immortalizing the beautiful pet dogs of loving pet owners. Mostly, this artist renders her pooch muses in pastel and barely in oil and charcoal. She is overwhelmed with so many subjects coming in during the Christmas period.

Like most human being portraitist, this lady also flatters her subjects once in a while. Hounds with purebred bloodlines going as early as the time of ancient Egypt and Persia known today as salukis are being raised happily by her and her retired electrical engineering husband.
