PC Housings Protect Manufacturing unit Computer Systems

By: Max Gallagher

When computers are deployed on to factory floors, they always need defending, owing to the non standard environment they are located. This is vital when thousands of dollars are being invested in to a manufacturing unit computer device.

Manufacturing facility computer systems are used to register day after day manufacturing facts, so that any person in the management can see at a look the phase any one order is at. Without this equipment it would be left to a paper trail throughout the manufacturing unit and if you ever have worked on a manufacturing line, you will know so many things can occur to paperwork.

This is why one engineering business have invested in hugh tvs on the production line that let somebody see engineering drawings in full size and the machinist can even zoom in on specific detail, this project had a return on its investment in 5 months, due to the amount of replacements drawing that did not need printing as well as the technical offices time searching for the drawings to reprint.

Factory information systems are used for multiple uses and can even be installed for displaying new production practices, for instance on how to work new CNC equipment, from a single central spot by and large the head office, a tutorial can be broadcast throughout the company in it's worldwide sites so every employee is up to speed with the usage of the new apparatus.

So what is required?
Well firstly a data network on the manufacturing floor, this can be either wifi, however this can be interrupted by EMC interferance, so the majority of systems use shielded twisted pair, (also known as FTP - foil, twisted pair) Category 5 cables. Once this is fitted the desktops need to be housed in a protective cabinet, these housings can either be for a PC based solution or a thin client solution. Another solution is a industrial computer case.

Then once the terminal is wired to the central computer the program can be installed across the computer network ready for team to use.
