Leonardo Da Vinci’s Life And Paintings

There is much to say about this brilliant artist. Leonardo da Vinci has often been described as the image of the Renaissance. This Italian artist (April 1452 – May 1519) was a man whose avid curiosity was equaled only by his powers of creation. This is why da Vinci is not only recognized by his paintings, he also created other things due to his numerous skills. He was a painter, sculptor, architect and engineer besides being a scholar in the natural sciences, medicine and philosophy. The name of Leonardo da Vinci comes from his natal city, Vinci, a small town close to Florence; it was a custom of the time.

Verrocchio was the first teacher of Leonardo. He took charge of his education as a painter when he was young. His first recognized work, which he painted as an assistant, is the angel kneeling on the left of Verrocchio’s picture: The Baptism of Christ (1472 - 1475). Since that date, da Vinci created many more paintings of different subjects. With the time, da Vinci developed his career in other Italian cities such as Milan and Rome. In Milan, he worked for Ludovico Sforza for almost ten years (1489 – 1499) and during his stayed in Rome, he knew to Julio de Medicis.

These are some of the most famous paintings of Leonardo da Vinci: The Annunciation (1472 - 1475), Madonna with the Carnation (1475), St. Hieronymus (1480 - 1482), Adoration of the Magi (1481 - 1482), The Virgin of the Rocks (1482 - 1486), Madonna Litta (1490), The Last Supper (1495 - 1498), Virgin and Child with St. Anne (1502 - 1516), Madonna of the Yarnwinder (1501), and Mona Lisa or “La Gioconda” (1503 - 1506).
