Learning about Asset Tags

By: Patricia Warren

Regardless if you are a homeowner, renter, or small or large business owner, it is always practical to utilize measures that could keep track of your properties or assets. You can make use of labels such as asset tags to help you track items or assets.

As mentioned, asset tags are labels, which are usually made of polyester, plastic, or metal. These tags have distinct barcodes or serial numbers and can be personalized with your own logo or any relevant information that specifically identifies you. Asset tags are weatherproof and durable. More so , they could not be taken off a luggage or equipment once they are placed on it. This is to say that nobody can steal them and place it on another item.

Asset tags can prevent a company from employee theft. They can also help a company file claims with insurance companies when something happens to the business. Asset tags can help in simplifying records of items and processes. When it comes to availing loans, asset tags may be required by the bank to verify assets.

There are other uses of asset tags for companies and homes. These include the following:

- Take for instance a company purchases new computer monitors and allot them to every employee. In case an employee gets fired or laid off, it is possible that the monitor would get lost. That is, another employee might take over the use of the monitor without notifying the company or the fired employee might have taken it. If there is no asset tags placed in the monitors, the company would not be able know which monitor is lost or how it can be tracked. However, if asset tags are placed on the monitors, the company can detect the missing monitor, who is assigned to that item and track the monitor.

- Asset tags can protect an employee from accusations of missing company items. If a company implements an asset protection system, the employer can verify if an employee is responsible for the loss of items in the company; therefore, protecting an employee who can be accused for the loss.

- At home, placing asset tags to properties can also be helpful. For example , if there is fire at a home, it is highly possible that all properties would be lost. If a home has an asset tag system and a robust database, the owner could easily present claim information to the insurance company.

It is important to take note of several factors when buying asset tags. You should choose colors, appearance, and materials of your labels based on your preferences. More so, you have to decide the serial numbers or barcodes you want to be placed as identifiers of your asset tags. You should make sure the sequential numbers you assign to your asset tags are unique to you.
