By: trisha articlulis

Goldfish have been around for generations now. They have been an integral part of the popular human consciousness and are certainly one of the most popular pet fish. Goldfish are fantastic starter fish for anyone looking to start an aquarium. On account of their long history, they are available in various shapes, sizes and body kinds. Members of the Carp family, Goldfish make excellent pets as they're hardy and easy to maintain and also quite low-cost. It is easy to keep Goldfish in a simple fish bowl and even in large aquariums. Goldfish are astounding and delightful fish.

Types of Goldfish

Common Goldfish: As the name suggests, these are the most typical kind of goldfish and show a discrepancy in color with their cousins, the Carp. They are available in an assortment of colors including Crimson, Orange, White, Yellow and Black.

Black Moor: This sort of Goldfish features a Popeye i.e. the eye protrudes slightly. It is named the dragon eye Goldfish in China.

Bubble Eye: Ok, this is another kind of fish that grosses me out. These guys have saggy sack like structures hanging from their faces which can be filled with some type of fluid..

Celestial Eye: This sort of Goldfish appears like it is wearing glasses. Its pupils point upward and it also has a split tail.

Comet: A smaller variety of Goldfish. It looks a great deal like the common Goldfish but with a longer tail plus a smaller body.

Fantail: This Goldfish has a good deal in common with the Ryukin variety of Goldfish. It has a triangle shaped body.

Lionhead: A awfully gorgeous looking fish. This sort of Goldfish has a hood on its head and appears very elegant.

Oranda: Also a hooded variety of fish, the Oranda's hood is much larger and not as subtle as that of the Lionhead. It isn't as beautiful either.

Telescope Eyed: Yet another Googly eyed species of Goldfish. This one is usually dark in color and does not look much like other Goldfish making it a very weird variety.

Panda Moor: This is one of the weirdest looking Goldfish you will ever see. It has a large split fantail and protruding eyes with a white and black color pattern.

Veiltail: One of my favorite types of Goldfish. This fish has a long swishy tail like a Betta and is just beautiful.

Goldfish are generally kept anywhere. Because they are such hardy fish, they can be kept in a gold fish bowl as well as a pond. They are very social fish and will make friends with their feeders. They've got memory spans of a few months and will make out speech patterns and sight of human beings they know.

Goldfish are known to like small shrimp and other crustaceans. They can be given specially formulated food you could get from your pet store. Try not to overfeed your fish. Kids especially must be intructed on exactly how much to feed their fish as they can easily become bloated.

Remember to maintain a close watch on the health of your fish. Be careful for signs of overfeeding or listless behavior and try to seek out problems before they get bad. Keep your fish tank away from direct sunlight as shifts in temperature may adversely affect the healh of your fish. Goldfish make excellent pets.
