Eye bag removal treatment or Blepharoplasty in UK

By: Chris Bredford

The appearance of your eye bag or eyelid can change over time. Stress, muscle weakening, sun damage and gravity are all attributing factors that can result in puffiness, wrinkles, folds and bags. Fortunately there is a cosmetic procedure called eye bag removal treatment or blepharoplasty that can help improve the eye's appearance.

This procedure is known to lift drooping upper lids and also help reduce puffy bags, and there are two types of surgery that exist today. The first is upper lid surgery, in which the surgeon makes an incision from above your eyelash across to your laughter lines. After skin is gently lifted from the subcutaneous layers, the surgeon trims any excess skin and gets rid of excess fatty tissue. The incision will then be closed utilising fine sutures.

Surgery on the lower lid means an incision below your eyelash and extended across to your crow's feet. During this treatment, the surgeon lifts the skin away and trims excess skin, making sure the area has reasonable skin tension. The surgeon will then get rid of any overlapping skin before closing the incision with fine sutures.

While researching this procedure I came across safercosmeticsurgery.co.uk, an impartial, non-profit website which gives safety information about this and many other cosmetic procedures. The site recommended contacting one of their 50 BAAPS and/or BAPRAS member surgeons for a consultation before making a decision to undertake eyelid surgery in the UK.

The site was a helpful research tool, and had good information about the consultations themselves. They note the importance of choosing a surgeon with whom you feel totally comfortable and confident, and who will not pressurise you into having work done.

Safercosmeticsurgery.co.uk also had helpful information regarding what to ask for at a consultation, such as before-and-after treatment photographs, computer simulations of the procedure, and detailed analysis of the costs involved. Your surgeon should always run through the risks associated with all surgical procedures, and discuss the limitations of your own procedure, as well as assessing realistic personal goals.
