Coping With Anxiety

By: Frank Roberts

Anxiety is a sensation of fear, worry, and stress and quite a few sufferers feel all alone and forsaken.
Coping with anxiety is a factor in our lives that most of us need to do daily. Millions of people all over the planet have to deal with a variety of forms of anxiety producing situations. While most people only have mild responses to differing types of stress, others have irrational responses to stressful conditions that can lead to anxiety attacks.
Coping with anxiety is not generally problematic if you know how your body responds to stress. Note that when coping with stressful situations, our bodies experience three different stages:
The first stage that our body goes through in coping with anxiety is the fight or flight response. When you feel threatened, your mind sends warning signs to the other components of your body. Adrenalin rushes through your blood and you feel immense energy and agitation in your body as your body prepares to run or to fight. At this stage anxiety can lead to perspiration, queasy stomach, a rapid or pounding heartbeat and muscle tension. It can also lead to headaches as well as palms that perspire quite a lot.
The second stage takes place when the stressful situation persists beyond the flight or fight stage and your mind forms resistance. This means that your mind sends another group of messages to the various sections of your body. As a development of these messages sent by the brain to your body, your system will release several hormones to help it handle the anxiety.
Once the stressful situation is finished, your body will now enter into the third phase which is exhaustion. Now, you should not be alarmed if you feel exhausted. Exhaustion is a indicator that your system needs to replenish the energies it consumed in coping with anxiety. If you feel weary, rest for a while.
Acquiring Some Time Off
It is desirable to take some time off after an anxiety attack. According to experts, coping with anxiety could take a toll on your body, thus it is highly recommended that your body is provided ample time to gain strength. Always remember that your body has just undergone some adverse situations and it now is easily vulnerable to other types of stress. Try not to expose yourself to more stress at this time because your body may not have enough energy to cope with additional anxiety right now.
Depending on the scenario that you have just gone through, it would be smart to take a couple of days off to help you relax. If you can't afford to take the day off, at least go somewhere to cool off. A walk outside and breath of fresh air may do you a lot of good.
If you experience frequent recurring anxiety attacks, there are many programs that can help.
