A protection that goes a long way for travelers

By: Thomas Robinson

Thanks to the dramatic increase of medical costs, you can't blame a traveler for thinking twice before traveling beyond his country's borders especially when he won't be covered in the event of a medical emergency. A growing number of American travelers now go for the logical precaution which is a good insurance coverage which gives them reimbursements for medical expenses wherever they need medical service in the world and these can easily be obtained through their own employee coverage programs as well as other available private health insurance policies that offer such a range of advantages.

But then, what happens now to people that can no longer afford privately funded health insurance programs like medicare dependent retirees, or even tourists from another country that have insurance that is not honored in America? These two groups can now rejoice with certain American insurance policies for their travels. Consider as an example this one Miami travel agency that offers a plan that pays up to $10,000 in medical benefits in the event that an injury happens to a tourist from a different country within the United States as well as for US residents who are traveling outside of their country.

The premium is $29.50 for the first week of travel in the United States and $20 a week thereafter. You will find that in the fifty dollars deductible clause, you cannot reimburse anything less than fifty dollars, but beyond it, as long as it does not reach the maximum of ten thousand dollars, you will be reimbursed accordingly. But be mindful of the restriction that states that the beneficiary will not be entitled to any payment if he acquired his sickness from a condition that was already there 90 days before having his policy. On top of that, the policy gives coverage for death or dismemberment, lost belongings or delay of receiving such belongings, instances of theft as well as for cancellation of travel trip.

A popular firm in America that delves into the insurance business has a policy which offers up to five thousand dollars remuneration for any medical service bills bone within and outside a hospital in the event of injuries from an accident, and this is just part of the bigger policy which even covers death and dismemberment and goes up to fifty thousand dollars in payments. In New York, Arm Coverage gives up to $1,000 in medical expenses incurred be it due to an accident or a sickness, and regardless if hospitalization is needed.

It is valid for a week up to three days after and it gives coverage for accidental death and dismemberment as well as double indemnity in specific cases as well as baggage protection that only amounts to $25.50. Separate from these risks are the policies you can acquire that will offer enough reimbursement in the event of a delayed or canceled trip thanks to awful weather conditions or even corporate charter catastrophes from airline strikes or bankruptcy issues as these are part of trip contingency but aside from these are the policies which grant emergency evacuation services such as relocating the patient to a different medical establishment even if it is in the traveler's home country if the physician states that it should be done.

However, in the case if tourists entering into America, say a British national, while he may be safeguarded by a government insurance program back home, this will not be the case when he is a different country, especially when he encounters an emergency situation. But then sadly, he or she will not manage to buy a private policy even if firms selling insurance abounds since these are mostly offered only within US borders.

This survey came out of a study in an effort to assist such foreign visitors. Just a couple of months ago on different circumstances, a couple of readers were asked if they knew companies that give insurance to foreigners coming into the United States. One of them said that she yearned to have an old aunt from Prague to come to America but was hesitant for injury or disease could make her bankrupt. The other reader avers that while he would be so glad to make his sole living Russian relative come to the US, who was a former engineer now already in his 80s, he had qualms for once, this relative met with a heart attack and his bill ran up tens of thousands of dollars.
