A Western Shirt is it’s Own Accessory

By: Jake Tucker

There's nothing quite as pleasing to the all-American man as a men's western shirt. It fits and flatters the best angles; the yoke makes the shoulders appear broader, the advantageously placed pockets make the chest appear deeper, and the descending lines make the stomach seem smaller and flatter. The "V" line of a men's western shirt is the traditional cowboy template.

Decades back the men's western shirt started off as working apparel, however it has developed into casual, professional, as well as formal wear. A well-worn shirt worn for work or recreation is as comfortable as a hug. This is just the right outfit for warm summer nights beside the river, or even a pick-up game of football at the park. Really the only thing cooler than a men's western shirt is bare skin.

A slick, crisp men's western shirt can furthermore be all business. It bespeaks a CEO who recalls what it is to work. They could be dignified and appropriate for wearing to church in the morning, but change your pace and it's relaxed and casual for Sunday afternoon brunch or barbeque at the in-laws.

There is club wear for boys, and then there is a men's western shirt for the big boys. The cut of a men's western shirt provides your shoulders and arms that additional stretch wanted at the pool table, but snaps right back to look fantastic for boot scooting across the dance floor. If your place is on the stage, though, a mens western shirt is definitely a musician's best accessory.

Built into a men's western shirt is the classic design element of the snap buttons. These might have a pearlized appearance for that little bit of flash, a dark onyx aspect for that little bit of Paladin in all cowboys, and internal snaps that keep out of the way for throwing hay or protecting the back of your beloved guitar.

There's men's western shirts dripping with country bling, for that Rhinestone Cowboy in each man. Embroidery and trimmings on the yoke may be acquired from quality western wear establishments, but may also be the product of good old fashioned needlework carried out by your best girl.

Another classic look could be the yoke and shirt made of dissimilar but complimentary fabric. Sexy yet sincere is the chambray shirt with a yoke design of miniature western wildflowers. A bronco-busting pattern is standard wear at the paddocks. Then there's silk and satin for the big Opry vacation, or a wedding day.

That does speak to the question, "How can something that started out as a rough and ready work shirt seem so rich and luxurious when it's all gussied up?" That is the mystery of your men's western shirt. Yes, it's designed along straightforward lines that follow the manly body, but there is a kind of country magic to it which will transform this men's western shirt into near-royal garb.

Naturally, there's that ancient saying about the clothes not wearing the man, rather, the man wearing the clothes. Mens western shirts, being cool without trying, transfer a bit of cool to the man that needs it, but reflects the cool of the man who's already there. A man can never have too many western shirts, and that is the truth of it.
