A National Health Insurance Could Prove to Be The Answer

Thousands of physicians in the United States are requesting that the government create a program for health coverage that would provide health insurance to every American citizen, addressing their needs and saving the country billions of dollars at the same time. National health coverage was once met by opposition from the pharmaceutical industry, medical community, and health insurance providers alike. Past attempts to create this type of program were mired in controversy dooming them to failure. Now, physicians are arguing that insurance through the private sector is irretrievably broken.

Many medical professionals have stepped forward, claiming that the American government has worked to support and pass legislature for the disabled and the elderly that would shift funds to private pharmaceutical companies, yet would be of very little actual value to patients. What the doctors are proposing is putting a single payer system in place, basically expanding and upgrading Medicare which is the government's current health care system for disabled and elderly people.

Health care organizations, mostly initiated as the only hope for health care, have increased the cost of Medicare substantially but haven't done much to win over the favor of the public. The hospital chains that are owned by investors, which had promised efficiency, have been decimated by scandals. Physicians have remarked that drug and pharmaceutical firms that garnered in the most revenue in the past and enjoyed the lowest taxes of all industries sell their drugs at prices that are too high for the people who need them more than anyone else. This idea of a single payer system has been published and discussed in the well-known journal of medicine.

The collection of doctors rallying for a national health plan was organized by the previous editor of a prominent American medical publication and two previous surgeons general. Recognizing the imminent disintegration by it's own hand, a Harvard Medical School lecturer offers, that there is not much time left for the current system. What it comes down to is single payer is not just a best choice, it's become the only choice.

But the American Medical Association is against a single payer, government financed health care system said the president of the association in an official press release. He has remarked that initiating a singer payer system in America would merely exchange one dilemma for a host of others. He made mention of extensive periods of time in expecting health care services, a sluggish response to take on management of facilities and new technologies, the expansion of a sizable bureaucracy that could result in a slowing in the power of patients and their doctors over clinical decisions - all of which are qualities of the single payer system.

The American association of health plans, which happens to be a promotional sector of the managed care niche, has also stated their opposition to the physicians' idea, which may bring reductions to the profit that hospitals and other health maintenance organizations rake in. The American Medical Association states that doctors who would like to sign the article make up less than one percent of the numerous doctors in the entire country. However, one physician is unwilling to concede this point notion the historical significance of a group of doctors, a group traditionally opposed to this sort of legislation, coming out in favor of national health insurance.
